Grow Your Own

Fruit and Veg tastes best when picked freshly from the garden!

Growing your own food can be so satisfying. We have all you need to do this.

From January to April, we have a wide range of seed potatoes (the current list is on the Stock List and Information page). We sell them in bags of 2.5kg for long rows (approximately seed potatoes, depending on the size of the tuber) and 1kg taster bags (containing approximately 12 tubers). These small bags are useful if you want to try new varieties or have limited space. Potatoes need to be chitted (allowed to sprout) and planted by Good Friday, by tradition. Have you tried growing potatoes in pots? A few potatoes planted deep in a pot can save space. We also sell special potato pots that allow you to check their development without digging them up!

At the same time we sell onion and shallot sets loose; by far the cheapest way of buying and great for not over buying. We also sell a range of beans, peas loose.

From Easter, we usually start stocking potted veg such as tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers. (There should be a list of these on the Stock List and Information page nearer the time). When the frosts are less frequent, a great range of organically grown 6 pack vegetables are available, including salad leaves, brassicas, onions, root veg and more.

The same company also supplies a great range of organically grown 9cm herbs. These will be on sale from mid May until the middle of summer.

Fruit trees are available all year round. We buy them once a year so stocks go down throughout the year. Along with these are soft fruit such as raspberries, currents, gooseberries and of course strawberries.

Along with the plants, we have compost, pots, seed trays, cloches, fleece and tools, all to keep your veg and fruit patches productive.
